Planners approve Brent estate redevelopment

New homes will be equipped with CHP and green roofs.

Brent planners have given the go ahead for the phased demolition and sustainable redevelopment of the 5.5 acre Barham Park estate, near Wembley. Notting Hill Housing and Countryside Properties are carrying out the regeneration project.

The five year project will involve demolishing all 214 homes in three phases and replacing them with 335 sustainable homes in a new neighbourhood. Homes will range from one bedroom apartments to family houses. The scheme also includes retail space and provision for a neighbourhood office/community space.

The first phase of the development is designed to meet Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 and on completion the whole development should achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 4. Heating and hot water will be provided from a district heating scheme which will incorporate a combined heat and power plant. Homes will also have green roofs.
