10m Igloo scheme clears planning

Urban regeneration business wins approval for mixed-use development in north London

Sustainable development and urban regeneration specialist Igloo has won planning approval for a £10m mixed-use scheme with 25 low energy homes in north London.

The development, on the formerly derelict site next to Caledonian Road and Barnsbury Overground station, involves the restoration of a Victorian townhouse, which will be converted to a ground floor retail studio with two homes above. A stable block to the rear will be turned into a creative workspace

The project also includes a new 21-unit apartment building plus a pair of semi-detached houses, designed by project architect Brady Mallalieu. The homes target Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating. Sustainability features will include:

  • solar photovoltaic panels
  • high levels of insulation and airtightness
  • mechanical heat recovery and ventilation
  • combined heat and power technology
  • secure cycle storage.

Construction is due to start shortly, with completion set for autumn next year.
