Prefabs go green

Connect:Homes adopts modular construction for green, affordable homes

A pair of US industry experts are aiming to give the prefab a fresh image with their new Los Angeles-based business, Connect:Homes.

The company is using modular construction to produce homes it says will be both affordable and green. Designs range from a 640 sq ft one-bedroom single storey unit, to a 2,560 sq ft four-bedroom two-storey home. Structures can incorporate such green features as:

  • Sustainable materials, including decking made from FSC-certified cedar and insulation incorporating recycled paper fibres
  • Low flow taps and low water-demand appliances
  • Cool roof
  • Optional rainwater harvesting system
  • Optional solar panel array.

Connect:Homes are marketing dwellings at from $145 per square foot and will showcase a prototype one-bed home at the Los Angeles show, Dwell on Design, from 22-24 June.

I’m very interesting to the subject and I’m trying to develop some "bioclimatic optional" in order to adapt prefab houses to different climate. Is the Company interested in?! Best regards, Clara
